so glad that we have power again!  Our story: I was parked out in front of Costco w/my two napping kiddies listening to KOGO when there was breaking news that parts of SD county was experiencing power outage.  They asked listeners to call in w/locations if they were experiencing power outages.  Calls started to come in from EVERYWHERE.  It got a bit spooky.  Yet around me, people were casually pushing their carts and loading up their cars.  I looked past the people to the Costco entrance and saw that the entrance door was closed.  My kiddies woke up, one angry and upset, the other dazed but quiet.  I called my husband who verified that power was out in his area and filled him in w/what I was hearing on the radio.  From there, I decided to leave...and that was when chaos broke out.  The angry and upset child just let us have it.  I was so close to yelling at him!  Then I heard the radio host mention that he was getting tweets/posts suggesting terrorism, being so close to 9/11...and in that moment, the mama bear in me kicked in and I apologized to my oldest, told him over and over that I loved him, and I'd get him home safely. It took  2 hours for me to clear 3 miles to get to the freeway entrance. We were basically just sitting ducks...hungry ducks.  But once we got on, it was light, there was no traffic.  I got a good look at the craziness of traffic, once again, when I got off the freeway, but once I got off, the traffic was all on the opposite side, none on my side so I was able to get home within 5 minutes from when I got off.  I vowed never to go to costco again...like that's going to really happen...
While we were sitting in traffic, there wasn't much that I could offer my kids: the wailing baby got a bottle, the last one I had on me.  The oldest had some of my diluted soda...asked for food, but we were just sitting in traffic and all the stores were closed and home was so far away! I remembered having some Frito twist leftovers in a baggie in the backseat so I told him he could have some of that.
My oldest wanted to play outside w/the neighbor kids and that was fine.  We just followed him around.  I called my husband one last time and told him he should just come home because traffic was bad and our original plan of him waiting it out by working out and eating on base, wouldn't work out because 1) power would probably be out in the gym, 2) if he worked out, he'd only be hungrier...and there wouldn't be any open restaurants anyways, and at home, we only had bagels, milk & cereal, crackers/chips at home. He got home around 6:30-7, decided to ask a neighbor for a lighter to get our stove going.  The baby was crying up a storm so I had her in my baby carrier.  In 15 minutes, I was able to make a quick dinner w/leftover items, wash bottles and prepare them for later that night, while he showered. and we ate on our balcony (it was too dark in the house).  It was getting darker, my phone battery was almost dead, so  I left it charging in my car and we were using my husbands cell phones to "see."  (we didn't know where our flashlights were).   Something reminded me that we had a portable car battery charger w/a light feature.  I took my husband's cell phone w/ me, went to the garage, found it pressed the light, and voila! we had light! =)  So we finished the rest of our dinner w/some light.  While washing dishes, the baby in my carrier reached over and grabbed 3 stacked up corning ware bowls on the counter...dropped them and crash...broken pieces everywhere.  I must have stepped on some because my feet still have a burning pain.  My oldest was just so intrigued by the whole event he kept trying to get into the kitchen to see what was happening!  Finally, he saw it was better for him to just stay out and not get hurt.  We called our relatives, got news of what was going on, then went to bed around 9...or so I think, because I had no watch/clocks to refer to.
My phone by then was charged so I took that w/me.  I woke up around 11:30, no power, still darkness.  got up around 3:30 and saw lights on outside.  next time, I need to have an emergency box in a easy to locate area, to get us through this kind of event !

Jeesh...
How long have we been out here?  Chris came out in Feb., we followed sometime in April.  We rented out our Tem house, April 1, went up to Nor Cal and rented out that one mid-April...so we must have come down here the 3rd week of April.  Of course, we drove down before April to visit and see what it was like...
Well, it's now almost mid-June.  We're going to be going back to CP some time between August and October.

it hasn't been that long since our last move.  To hear that we're moving...AGAIN...just kills me!
I know that with mil life, you have to move, and move often.  but it hasn't even been 5 months since Chris moved out here...  JEESH!  You have no idea how much I regret renting out our Temecula place right now!!!!! augh!  When we move back to CP, it'll only be for a couple of more months before we'll have to move again for grad school or battalion. so even then, we don't know where we're going.  If Jacob wasn't starting school in September, it wouldn't even be much of a problem.  But he will start in September, so I'm just stuck now.
do i...
1) Start him in school out here in AZ for  a month or so, then transfer over when Chris goes back to CP?
2) Do I go back to the CP area first, rent out a house/apt and have Jacob start school there so there's no transition needed?  bad part: we don't know when Chris will come back so I might be there by myself w/the kids for MONTHS before he comes...
3) just bite the bullet and homeschool Jacob?  Then there's no need for transition.  But Jacob really needs to interact w/kids his age...
4) start him in school near my parents place...it's in a good neighborhood.  but what's the point if we're going to move him in 1-4+ months? and shouldn't we all be together w/chris?

I'm leaning towards #3,4,1, and 2.  hahahah

that's not helpful.

all of our options have their good and bad.  If I at least knew WHERE chris would go after CP, it would help me plan a little more.  If he's going to battalion, I'd go with #4 because then he could go to 1 school for 3 years before having to move schools again.

if I homeschool, I would start out here in AZ, then when we move to CA, I'd have to transfer him to CA when we move.

I need to pray more about this.  I looked at a homeschooling magazine, talked to some friends who home school...and if I do, I'd probably use the Sonlight curriculum for all of the academic portion, and use something else for the bible portion (maybe from AWANA).

I had EVERY intention of using cloth diapers.  If we weren't in this small place, and I had my laundry machine, I would be using them.  But we're in a lodge and I have to use the coin laundry machines.  No way I would do that to other ppl.  oh well...
We also have a small fridge here...not a full size one so I can't buy bulk of anything.  I'm not used to this yet.  It'll take some time/practice for me to get used to this.  So far, I'm finding myself going to the market on a DAILY basis so that I can make that next meal.  Before coming down here, I was at my parents place in LA.  I brought some Kimchi, cucumber kimchi, oo-ung, and myul-chi bokeum (everything in small containers).  Even though they were small containers,
in my fridge:

Wow, so I thought giving birth to Julia & raising her was going to be the biggest thing on my plate for the next year and a half...but apparently, it wasn't.  I never imagined that I'd be moving 4 months after birth!  Chris extended out at Camp Pendleton so that there would be stability in the house...but really, that stability was yanked right below our feet.  The word we're getting used to is: TEMPORARY.  Everything is temporary.
Chris was reassigned to MCAS Yuma to head up the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) construction...what an awesome opportunity for him...but that means having to rent out our house in Temecula.  On top of that, Chris' friends are moving out of our NorCal house...so we're having to find tenants for that place as well.  I'm telling you, this whole thing is just one big jumbled up stress causer.  Thankfully, a lot of people have shown interest in the NorCal property and after reducing the rate on our Temecula place, there have been more interest in that house as well.  I wish I can have both homes rented out by mid-April!  That would be great!
Anyways, so now, I'm trying to just bring some sort of stability in our family during this crazy time.
Tomorrow, Jacob enrolls for preschool here on base and hopefully, he'll settle in quickly.
Once he goes to school, it'll free up some of my morning time and when he comes home, I'll just supplement w/some additional lessons.
Last week, when I was out in town, I saw a piano learning center and horse riding lessons for preschoolers.  I'll have to see what else they have out here for Jacob...
